Last week, I was honoured to be sponsored by Marcus Oldham College to attend the 2019 Rural Leadership Program. It was a jam packed week of activities, presentations and workshops from Sunday through to Friday.
The program was delivered by expert facilitators delivering content on leadership, communication, social licence, emotional intelligence, mental health and low-stress stock handling. On two occasions, all of the program’s students had to deliver speeches and receive feedback on their delivery. This was a little overwhelming but hugely beneficial and was made infinitely easier by the incredible group of people attending the course who were engaged and supportive.
The forty participants in the Rural Leadership Program this year had been sponsored to attend by a variety of farm businesses, companies and industry bodies.
From apiarists to northern beef producers, agribusiness bankers to organic dairy farmers, the group was so diverse and we learnt and gained so much from each other and our different production and business lives and careers. The mix of ages, commodity groups and huge degree of geographic spread added to the richness of the week and I came away from the week empowered and inspired by my fellow peers as much as by the program’s rich content.
I encourage all those interested to apply for the program in 2020.
