Northern Downs Spray Forum And Optical Sprayer Demonstration – Tuckerang
November 26 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Interested growers from the grains, horticulture and cotton industries are invited to attend the Northern Downs Spray Forum and Optical Sprayer Demonstration.
Initiated by the local community, the program has been developed by ICAN to give participants an understanding of why safe spray practices are so important, while also explaining how practical solutions can be implemented on-farm to improve the efficacy of weed control.
To understand the ‘why’ question, James Hunt from Australian Choice Exports will discuss his personal experiences of negotiating grain sales to overseas customers and Jenna Garwood from the National Residue Survey will explain the importance of MRLs and WHPs and give a snapshot of the national survey results. In response to local grower query, the changes to the 2,4-D registrations will be the focus of Shannon Colby from the APVMA.
To address the ‘how’ question Mary O’Brien will introduce SataCrop, a program to identify the locations of different crops in the district. ICANs Mark Congreve will share his knowledge of herbicide behaviour and how herbicide performance can be optimised when moving to coarser spray qualities. While understanding the impact of water quality on spray performance will be addressed by Malcolm Salisbury from Nufarm. Malcolm will also discuss registrations and sprayer setup for optical sprayers.
After lunch, practical sessions with Nufarm, WeedIt Quadro, WeedSeeker2, Agrifac and Bilberry will show how spraying solutions are developing using optical technology including green-on-green detection.
