Farm Planning

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be actively engaged in farming, or have ready access to, and knowledge of, a farm business for completion of assessment exercises
  • Have access to a computer with at least Windows XP, Word 97, Excel 97, Adobe Reader and satellite broadband internet connection or similar
  • Basic computer skills e.g. use of internet, email, basic word processing skills

If you’d like to map out what you want your farm to look like in 5,10, 20 or more years here is your chance with our Farm Planning course. Computerised mapping software FarmMap is used during the training.  Some of the advantages of computerised mapping are:

  • Easy to update
  • Adapt plans easily
  • Calculate areas and lengths for purchase of fertilisers, seed and fencing materials
  • Maintain details of infrastructure, eg. underground water pipe join locations

The course will also cover:

  • Understanding the vision for your business – where is it heading?
  • Assessing current resources
  • How to best manage the resources you have
  • Planning for changes you can make so the business moves towards your vision
  • Setting in place a firm action plan to achieve those changes

Assessment tasks that you will complete:

  • Assessment of Farm Resources Workbook
  • Whole Farm Workbook
  • Online Presentation of your whole farm plan
