The NSW Government’s Commercial Fisheries Business Adjustment Program introduces linkages between shares and catch or effort. This will give fishers the ability to invest in their business with more certainty than ever before. Importantly, share linkages have been tailored to each share class.

The Commercial Fisheries Business Adjustment Program has been designed to assist the commercial fishing industry to manage restructure impacts with assistance measures available to fishers exiting the industry and for fishers who remain in the industry to expand their operations and improve business viability.

Fishing Cooperatives Assistance

To assist NSW commercial fisheries shareholders (shareholders) with the cost of seeking professional financial advice regarding their business operation within the new share linkage and management arrangements.

Shareholder loans

The NSW Rural Assistance Authority delivers the Commercial Fisheries Business Adjustment Program – Shareholder Loan in New South Wales on behalf of the Department of Primary Industries – NSW Fisheries.

Loans up to a maximum of $80,000 to any one commercial fishing shareholder at a fixed interest rate of 2.50% over a maximum term of 12 years are available.

Loans are only available for the purchase of additional species or effort quota shares as listed below:

  1. Estuary general – pipi, beachworm, cockle and ghost nipper quota shares
  2. Ocean hauling – Australian sardine, blue mackerel, yellowtail scad quota shares
    Ocean trap and line – bass grouper, blue-eye trevalla, hapuku, pink ling, perch and gemfish quota shares
  3. Ocean trawl – tiger flathead, bluespotted flathead, trawl whiting, silver trevally, gemfish and prawn effort quota shares.
