Farm Table says:

This one-page overview of feeding lucerne to dairy cattle is a simple starting point.  It doesn't include information on silage, although this might be the next step in research.

This fact sheet was produced by the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in 2009 and is a simple overview of the impact of introducing lucerne into a dairy system.

It highlights the impact of lucerne on the cow’s diet and flags the need for bloat control.  It also briefly outlines production management in a grazing production system and hay management, including the general rules for grazing lucerne such as not grazing below 5cm.

It also includes a table of annual yield and seasonal distribution of lucerne types within the subtropical dairy region (Gatton, QLD).

In conclusion, this fact sheet provides basic information on lucerne production, management and the impact of feeding to dairy cattle.
