Global trade has increased Australia’s risk of importing exotic pests and diseases. The presence of pests and diseases in our near northern neighbours gives tropical farmers a reason to be vigilant with bio-security and surveillance of their crops.

This guide is in two sections:

• Biosecurity and surveillance – describes key aspects of on-farm biosecurity and how to undertake pest surveillance
• Information on the high-priority exotic pests for several of the horticultural crops grown in northern Australia. The guide has been developed to increase your awareness of these pests and provide you with information on what to do if you suspect you have found one
