Organisers of the Rodeo Roundup event in Tamworth say a “freak accident” has claimed the life of valued industry member and “diamond in the rough”, Bruce Green.

Mr Green, 62, from Lawrence in northern New South Wales, was working as a yardman at the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association event on Saturday when a bull charged at him.

He was critically injured and emergency services rushed to the scene, but Mr Green later died in hospital.

Oxley Police District chief inspector Jeff Budd said officers were looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A statement on the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) Facebook page described Mr Green as the “most extraordinary” club member of the Lawrence rodeo committee.

“During which time he has given selflessly to his mates, his family, the sport of rodeo and campdraft, and the ABCRA,” the statement said.

The statement went on to say Mr Green was “never asking for anything but always giving everything”.

“A great bloke and a diamond in the rough. Generous in every way,” it said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
