Social Media Tips for Agribusiness: How to Find Content Ideas That Actually Resonate
In this article, Gillian Fennell, Farm Table's Social Media Specialist offers practical tips to help you navigate the constant issue with coming up with fresh content ideas for your Agribusiness.
Coming up with fresh content ideas for social media can feel like flogging a dead horse—especially when you’re juggling the demands of running an farm, a family and an agribusiness. But good content doesn’t have to be complicated. It just needs to be timely, relevant, and resonant with your audience—especially if they live and work in rural, regional, and remote Australia.
Finding content ideas that actually work.
1. Tap Into Your Daily Life
Your daily routine is content gold. What feels “normal” to you is fascinating to someone outside your world—and relatable to those in it.
How:
Film your sunrise start. Show the dust, the mud, the mess, and the magic. A 10-second video of mustering or a quick photo of lunch in the paddock can spark incredible engagement. Don’t overthink it—just share the story behind what you do and why it matters.
2. Listen to What Your Audience Is Talking About
If you want your content to land, you need to know what’s already on your audience’s mind. What’s keeping them up at night? What are they celebrating?
How:
Tune into local Facebook groups, listen to agricultural podcasts, read industry newsletters (like ours), and keep an ear out at the footy, cricket, school drop off or local show. Tools like Google Trends and Meltwater’s Global Digital Trends report can also give insights into broader conversations.
3. Anchor Content Around the Seasons
In Agriculture, everything’s seasonal—and so should your content be. What matters in summer doesn’t necessarily hit the same in winter.
How:
Map out key dates on your farming or regional calendar: harvest, calving, drought policy submissions, community events, even public holidays like the local show. Create content that fits the rhythm of rural life.
4. Revisit Your Content Pillars
Instead of posting randomly, focus on 3–5 core content themes that reflect your business, your audience, and your goals.
How:
Use the four key pillars:
- Educate (explain what you do, how it works, why it matters)
- Entertain (show the funny, raw, or relatable side of ag life)
- Promote (talk about your products, services, or events)
- Inspire (share quotes, achievements, or user-generated content)
Rotate through these pillars so you’re not always selling, and you’re consistently adding value.
5. Don’t Be Afraid to Repurpose Content
You don’t need to start from scratch every time. One idea can be repurposed across multiple platforms and formats.
How:
Write a blog post? Pull three key quotes into a carousel for Instagram. Got a good question in your DMs? Turn it into a FAQ post or a reel. Feature a product in a story? Screenshot it and post it to your grid. Efficiency = consistency.
Remember
Your content doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real. Rural audiences value honesty, humour, and heart over polish and perfection. By anchoring your content in the real world—your world—you’ll build trust, grow your presence, and connect with the people who matter most.
