resonAg: An MRI of your farm

As the advance of technology radically reshapes conventional farming, Australia’s agricultural sector is watching the rise of resonAg with particular interest. In an exclusive interview, Rob Jennings meets Brenton Armitage, Chief Operating Officer of resonAg, to delve into soil intelligence, agritech entrepreneurship, and the future of sustainable farming.

Harnessing Technology for Farming’s Future

Brenton Armitage’s journey from mining technology into agricultural innovation encapsulates the changing face of Australian agribusiness. “Our goal at resonAg is to make every farmer the expert on their own soil. There’s nothing more fundamental”, Armitage shares, describing resonAg’s ability to provide an ‘MRI for your farm’ that offers real-time insights into moisture, fertiliser, and carbon levels right from the outset. This leap from traditional soil testing to live, adaptive analytics marks a turning point for growers seeking maximum efficiency and sustainability.

Turning Ideas Into Impact

What drove the concept?

“Problems on the ground inspired us. Too many growers were losing yield because they couldn’t really know their soil until it was too late.” The breakthrough was developing moisture probes compatible with any existing farm equipment, delivering accurate readings regardless of soil type.

Armitage explains:

“We wanted resonAg’s innovations to fit into the rhythms of farm life without disruption.”

Partnership and Progress

A pivotal relationship in resonAg’s growth has been its collaboration with Beanstalk Ag Tech’s Drought Venture Studio. “Beanstalk understood what we wanted to achieve and connected us with resources and mentorship. That early support accelerated our ability to deploy and test in real-world conditions” said Armitage. Such partnerships have enabled rapid iteration and brought resonAg’s technology to more producers at a critical moment.

A Challenge Worth Facing

Launching resonAg came with bold challenges. Armitage explained “The hardest part was gaining the trust of experienced growers. They’d heard it all before, grand promises rarely delivered. So we listened, adapted the tech, and leveraged partnerships to ensure proper trials and transparent results.”  Their commitment to co-designing with the sector ensured skepticism turned to advocacy as pilot-users realised dramatic gains in water efficiency and crop emergence.

The Road to Resilience

Climate volatility is front of mind for Australian agriculture, and resonAg’s soil analytics are steering the sector toward resilience.

“Giving farmers live information is like switching on the lights in a dark room. Suddenly, you know exactly how to plan—whether it’s changing seed depth or mapping out irrigation needs for the next season.”

Advice to Agritech Innovators

When asked what other founders can learn from resonAg’s journey, Armitage is reflective: “Start with authentic partnerships, listen to actual problems, and be open to changing your product. Farmers are incredible innovators. If you build technology for and with them, success means something real, measured at the paddock, not just the lab.”

Looking Ahead

With international interest in adaptive, data-driven farming practices, Armitage believes Australia is at the forefront of a soil revolution. “We’re proud to help growers lead the way. The potential for global adaptation is massive, and our approach is designed to scale, empowering farmers everywhere with actionable intelligence.” he said.

ResonAG at Agritechnica

resonAg’s cutting-edge soil analytics technology, developed in Australia but poised for global deployment, stands as an example of how digital innovation can deliver real-world benefits to the agricultural sector. This rise from Western Australian roots to a worldwide platform firmly establishes resonAg as a bridge between data solutions and direct benefits to farmers. As Agritechnica 2025 approaches, Brenton Armitage is looking forward to joining a community of global agronomists, engineers, and business leaders, ready to forge collaborations and continue shaping the future of Australian farming technology.
