Wunnamurra breed Poll Dorset flock rams for commercial prime lamb producers. We use Lambplan to select and identify the best genetics. We breed long, bold, clean headed rams with balanced ASBVs for growth and muscling as our principle aim is to breed high quality, productive flock rams for commercial prime lamb producers. Your productivity is our priority.

We are a family business running a highly developed irrigation farm of 1000ha with water coming from the Murray River. Crops consist of rice, wheat, canola and oats as well as improved sub clover and ryegrass pastures.

Our commercial prime lamb enterprise consists of 600 large frame Riverina merino ewes which we join to our Poll Dorset rams, lambing in April and turning off lambs in September, usually over the hooks.

The Poll Dorset stud was started in 1987 to breed rams for ourselves, however, it was quickly realised that to breed the correct type of sheep for the growing lamb industry we needed a reasonable sized flock. We now have 400 ewes and utilise artificial insemination in order to access the best genetics possible.

Lambplan enables recording and measuring of the genetic potential of our sheep, as well as their progeny. Data is collected at birth, weaning and at around 6 months of age to assess the genetic potential of each animal for growth rate, muscle depth, and fat depth. We DNA and progeny test selected animals for higher accuracy data and to estimate eating quality of progeny.
