Australian Drought Hubs
Drought Hubs follow a unique model that leverages farming systems groups and delivery partners to drive effective on-ground action through collaboration. By bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and the practical needs of communities and industries, they streamline the delivery of vital knowledge and resources.
Droughts are a recurring part of Australia’s highly variable environment, and climate change is making them more frequent and severe. To boost drought preparedness and resilience across agricultural industries, the environment, and regional communities, the Federal Government has established eight Drought and Innovation Hubs in each state.
These Drought Hubs follow a unique model that leverages farming systems groups and delivery partners to drive effective on-ground action through collaboration. By bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and the practical needs of communities and industries, they streamline the delivery of vital knowledge and resources. Through co-designed solutions with farmers, industry stakeholders, and regional communities, the Hubs foster the adoption of innovations that strengthen economic, environmental, and social resilience to drought.

Victorian Drought Hub
Headquartered at the University of Melbourne’s Dookie Campus, the Victoria Hub is a statewide collaboration uniting four universities, the state government, and five regionally connected and engaged farming groups.

Tasmanian Drought Hub
The Tasmanian Drought Hub led by the University of Tasmania and is aimed to strengthen the capabilities of farmers and rural communities, helping them better prepare for drought. By bringing together researchers, farmers, industry leaders, natural resource managers, and Traditional Owners, it fosters collaboration to co-design and implement innovative, practical solutions tailored to local needs.

Southern NSW Hub
Southern NSW Drought Hub connects farmers and rural communities with practical, modern solutions to adapt to a changing climate. They are part of a national network and collaborate with trusted organisations, experts, researchers, and community groups to drive sustainable change, helping communities prepare for and adapt to drought.

South-West Western Australia Hub
The South-West WA Hub has been developed to make agricultural research impactful and accessible, increasing innovation and commercialisation opportunities.

Northern WA and NT Drought Resilience Hub
The Northern Hub works to connect research expertise with on-ground knowledge and respond to end user demands for transformative new technologies and leading practices.

Tropical North Queensland Hub
The Northern Hub works to connect research expertise with on-ground knowledge and respond to end user demands for transformative new technologies and leading practices.

South Australian Drought Hub
The hub works closely with farmers and farmer groups to build resilience to and preparedness for drought and climate change in South Australia’s agricultural and pastoral industries.

SQNNSW Hub
The Hub empowers stakeholders to co-design drought preparedness activities for the region. The Hub will extend into the regions with proven drought-resilience research to improve innovation and adoption across agriculture, industry and the community.
