The Biosecurity Plan for the Australian Grains Industry 2023-2028 identifies more than 1,300 plant pests and potential threats to the grains industry, including high priority exotic pests. It details current activities and highlights new areas for focus and investment to guide preparedness, surveillance and responses
The Plan is intended to provide government and industry with the tools needed to maintain and improve Australia’s plant biosecurity system and safeguard the grains industry.
Components of the biosecurity plan:
- identifies and ranks exotic high priority pests and other pests of biosecurity significance
- guides biosecurity activities according to pest prioritisation and activity gap analysis
- outlines the pest risk assessment by threat, potential for entry, establishment, and spread as well as potential economic impact
- summaries risk mitigation activities and guidelines for managing risk at all operational levels
- details national response agreements and processes to effectively respond to incursions.
