So, who is behind Farm Owners Academy?
Greg Johnsson and Andrew Roberts created the Farm Owners Academy in 2015 to simplify the complexity of running a farming business. Their methods have been tried and tested in Australian Farming Businesses for over 35 years and are proven to help you experience more profit, more control, and more freedom.
Greg has had a lifetime of experience as a business owner and specialist sheep and cattle production consultant. Greg’s passion for improving enterprise productivity and profitability for farmers started when he trained as a veterinary surgeon and has spanned the last 37 years.
Greg has also been a farmer, managing the family farm on Kangaroo Island in the 1980s and 1990s whilst establishing his veterinary business, the Kangaroo Island Veterinary Clinic. With partner Deb Lehmann, Greg managed 650 breeding cows and a Limousin stud. He is also a Sheep Genetics Services provider and provides the software development “grunt” behind Elite Innovation Co’s ‘BreedElite’ sheep performance recording software and its innovative Smart Draft‘n’Weigh system.
Andrew grew up on a farm in New England, NSW. Since witnessing the gruelling work, long hours and huge stress his father endured on their New England wool farm, Andrew has a deep-rooted passion to improve the lives of fellow farmers and their families. He utilises his 20 years’ experience to teach the business skills farmers require to earn more money, gain more control, and achieve more freedom.
Andrew has dedicated his career to helping business owners and their teams succeed. He has a passion for business and an obsession with mindset and implementation. Andrew is driven to help people be well rewarded whilst doing work they love; with people they like; the way they want.
With over 20 years’ experience as a coach and mentor to some of the biggest companies in Australia, Andrew is well-equipped to help business leaders and everyday people achieve business and financial mastery. He also walks his talk. Prior to co-founding Farm Owners Academy, Andrew built and sold two of his own million-dollar companies.
Why is Farm Table working with FOA?
Without working on our businesses, it would be unrealistic for us to expect a much different future from the one we have right now.
To give an analogy, would we leave our farm machinery out in the elements and put off investing in its maintenance, assuming it will continue to run at peak performance tomorrow and in future years? We don’t put off these jobs, despite how busy our schedules are.
But, ‘working on the business’ tasks often fall to the bottom of the pile. As farmers, we always have our hands full, so it’s not always easy to think that analysing our business or signing up for a seminar, conference or training course is a wise investment or a good use of time.
The business case, however, is pretty clearly in favour of the time investment.
A report, “Dollars and Sense — Measuring the Tangible Benefits of Farm Business Management Practices on Canadian Farms” identified the top seven farm business management practices that drive farm financial success of the top 20% of producers, who had an average return on assets of 10 per cent, more than five times higher than the bottom 25 per cent of farmers, who averaged 1.6 per cent. Number 1 on the list of farm business management practices was a commitment to continuous learning, and I imagine if the study was replicated in Australia the result would likely be similar.
So, continuous learning and improvement is vital.
And there is no more important time than now to do so.
Modern farmers must manage a complex mix of financial, physical and human resources, all at a time while adapting to complex changes in our external working environment.
But, where do we turn to drive our businesses in the right direction? I had heard so many great things about Farm Owners Academy and I was drawn to their content and courses and with further investigation, I knew that Farm Table needed to spread the word about this amazing organisation and all that they are doing.
Why does FOA want to support Farm Table?
Co-Founder, Andrew, stated that:
“We love the fact that Airlie has pioneered the very best ‘one stop shop’ helping farmers to be informed, equipped and to succeed. We have aligned values and visions, as this is what we also do.
I enjoy reading the Farm Table newsletter and emails that give a solid summary of what is happening in the agriculture industry.
I grew up on a farm, and know how tough it is to succeed as a farmer, so I love that they exist to make the farmers life a little easier.
We look forward to working with Airlie, her team @ Farm Table and its community of growth-oriented farming families.”
