What types of financial assistance programs are available for farmers?

  •     Provides low-interest loans of up to $20,000 to cover 100% of costs for transporting stock, fodder, or water to and from drought-affected properties.
  •     The first two years of the seven-year loan are interest and repayment-free.

Drought Assistance Concessional Loans:

  •             Offers loans for up to 50% of a farm business’s final debt position, with a maximum of $1 million.
  •             Available for debt restructuring and necessary operating expenses to sustain normal farm operations.

Farm Innovation Fund

    Loans are available to primary producers for drought and disaster preparedness works as well as other productivity improvements.

Commonwealth Farm Household Allowance:

  •             A financial support program for farming families in financial hardship, lasting for three years.
  •             Helps cover household bills and alleviate financial strain.

Transport Subsidy for Animal Welfare

    A permanent subsidy for primary producers transporting stock to sale or slaughter, applicable when animals are at significant risk due to lack of feed or water.

Rural Financial Counselling Service

 Provides free professional assistance to help farmers manage their banking relationships and navigate financial challenges brought on by drought-related issues.

Farm Debt Mediation

  •     Offers mediation services for farmers facing difficulties in managing their debts, facilitating discussions with lenders and financial institutions.
  •     Farmers are encouraged to explore these programs and seek tailored assistance to ensure their operations can withstand the challenges presented by drought conditions
