Regenerative farming: A ‘natural way’ to help counteract drought

Farm Table says:

This documentary follows Charles Massy’s shift from conventional sheep farming to regenerative agriculture after severe drought. It shows how his land recovered when he began working with nature, and explores the ideas behind his book Call of the Reed Warbler.

This ABC Australian Story documentary follows Charles Massy, a fifth-generation sheep farmer in New South Wales, as he transforms his degraded 2,000-hectare property after drought nearly bankrupted him.

Shifting from chemical-intensive conventional farming to regenerative agriculture, he works with natural cycles—grazing livestock rotationally, boosting soil biology and restoring biodiversity—to heal the land.

The film visits other pioneering farmers using similar holistic methods, inspired by Massy’s book Call of the Reed Warbler. It highlights improved resilience, water retention and productivity, positioning regenerative practices as a solution to climate change, soil loss and food system crises. Massy’s journey underscores hope through ecological farming.
